And not a single camel toe in the bunch. Remarkable.

Subject: Entertaining.
Cute little early 1940's film about lady lifeguards of Manhattan Beach-considered the fancier section of the Brighton Beach, Coney Island area in Brooklyn,New York.

Subject: Out Go the Bad Attitudes, In Come the Good...
This newsreel featurette shows us the intensive training female lifeguards received at New YorkÂs Manhattan Beach during the 30s. They were trained in speed and distance swimming, rowing, breaking dangerous holds that drowning victims often subject lifeguards to, and the tedious out-goes-the-bad-air-in-comes-the-good kind of artificial respiration (which the narrator tells us sometimes goes on for hours before the victim is revived). After all this, they are qualified to Âassist the male lifeguards, and must undergo leering Âinspections by the potbellied head lifeguard, while the narrator says such clever things as, ÂThis is a company anybody would love to inspect! IÂm sure they received Âassistant pay as well. The bland sexist assumptions of this film tell us just how far weÂve come in improving our view of womenÂÂthe narrator seems throughout like he can barely believe that the Âgirls can do all that lifesaving stuff. Another good film for an ephemera Âladies night.Â
Ratings: Camp/Humor Value: ****. Weirdness: ***. Historical Interest: *****. Overall Rating: ****.

I use windows movie maker...The film is in b/w which I change to SEPIA to give a period look (they used b/wbecause it was cheaper)..The film has a voice narration which I find irritating and unnecessarary. So I click MUTE and this removes the sound track .Then I add a music mp3 and about 10 short titles..I am pleased with the new 9 minute film the work involved is about 30 minutes

Subject: Wanna go (ahem) 'Swimming?'
A short, rather sexist little short which features a section of a beach which has nothing but female life guards. Sometimes, by watching this, you'd think you were watching the 1955 Miss America Swim Suit competition, with the pretty ladies all in a row. (and the male lifeguard 'inspecting' them) Somehow I get the impression the ladies were thinking the same thing. Anyways, we see all facets of their 'training' (watch the rescicitation scene for more amusing male sexist fantasies) and soon their 'rescuing' a boy from the water.. Luckily for us the cameras were there to catch the action! A pretty curious short.
